OpenMind is a non-profit organization that works to address these issues by translating the latest behavioral science research into educational tools that are practical, scalable, and evidence-based in order to equip people with the mindset and skillset to bridge divides. Our educational tools are built primarily for use in higher education and high schools, but they are also used in workplaces and community organizations.
 

OpenMind was co-founded by psychologist Jonathan Haidt, the bestselling author of The Righteous Mind and The Coddling of the American Mind. Since launching in 2017, our program has been used by 50,000 learners in more than 1,000 classrooms and 150+ organizations and companies across more than 30 countries.


OpenMind is at an exciting stage in our organizational growth. We just completed a 3-year strategic plan where we established ambitious goals to: (1) Develop a suite of educator- and student-facing tools to promote pluralism, intellectual humility, and constructive dialogue in schools and universities, (2) Scale these tools to reach a million students annually within the next four years, and (3) Execute a thought leadership agenda to establish the importance of intellectual humility and constructive dialogue to educational and civic outcomes.

About the role

OpenMind is looking for a Marketing and Communications Manager to develop and distribute content to elevate the importance of constructive dialogue and promote OpenMind’s tools and resources as a way to help students, educators, and workplaces effectively engage across differences.


The Manager will develop content based on OpenMind’s suite of product offerings, research, and perspective on the role of constructive dialogue in the US education system and as part of a healthy civic culture.


The Manager will develop strategies to get our message out to partners, funders, educators, mass media, and education sector audiences through our website, social media, media relations, paid advertising, and coordinated thought leadership campaigns.


With support from the Manager, OpenMind aims to expand its reach to serve more than 1 million learners annually within the next 3 years and ensure that constructive dialogue is recognized as a foundational skill for the next generation.


The ideal candidate will be a creative and flexible team player who takes the lead in identifying marketing needs and opportunities, develops a strategic approach to brand-building and audience engagement, creates and curates inspiring content, and reviews all external-facing marketing and communications for brand fidelity, effective messaging, and attractive design. They will be well organized, pay close attention to detail, write well, and be able to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage OpenMind’s core communications platforms including website, social media, and newsletters. Maintain dynamic, asset-rich platforms that reflect OpenMind’s brand and ensure relevant, revenue-generating and brand-building content is delivered to targeted audiences.

  • Oversee the development of video, web, and text-based content that introduces potential audiences to our growing suite of program offerings and seamlessly guides them through sign-up, adoption, and retention.

  • In partnership with the VP of Growth & Development, develop, monitor, and assess goals for audience reach and engagement, leveraging the analytic tools available to OpenMind through our website, HubSpot, and other sources.

  • Be a “brand advocate” across the organization helping our internal teams manage and deliver branded marketing and communications materials.

  • Support the launch of a multi-year thought leadership campaign to elevate the educational and civic importance of constructive dialogue, and the demand for OpenMind’s resources. Partner with an external strategic communications firm on this work, serving as day-to-day point person for the firm, generating materials for media campaigns and conferences, tracking our progress against goals, and assessing the ROI on our investments toward this goal.

Job requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a marketing and/or communications role, with education and/or EdTech experience a plus

  • Experience developing and managing website CMSs and marketing CRMs to engage audiences, with experience using HubSpot a plus

  • Working knowledge of paid and organic social media and communications best practices

  • Exceptional writing ability, with the facility to define multiple, distinct key audiences and develop strategic messaging

  • Excellent project planning, with the ability to self-direct, anticipate roadblocks, meet deadlines, and prioritize among competing goals, while maintaining attention to detail.

  • A track record of maintaining a consistent brand and voice across multiple teams and workflows

  • Ability to be strategic and flexible as new challenges arise

  • Graphic design skills a plus
