In recent years, our society has become increasingly divided. Rather than appreciating our differences, all too often, people are viewing the world through an "us versus them" lens. OpenMind works to address these issues by translating the best behavioral science research into practicable, scalable, and evidence-based tools that equip people with the mindset and skillset to communicate and collaborate across differences. Our tools are built for use in many contexts, including campuses, workplaces, and communities.
OpenMind is a non-partisan, non-profit organization co-founded by the social psychologist Jonathan Haidt, author of the bestselling books The Righteous Mind and The Coddling of the American Mind. Since launching in 2017, our online program has reached more than 45,000 people in more than 900 classrooms, as well as 100+ organizations and companies, across more than 15 countries.
We are looking for a creative storyteller and results-driven strategist to become our Director of Marketing & Communications. You will architect OpenMind’s marketing strategy to grow our learner base, and will also develop our communications strategy to establish OpenMind as the leading brand for fostering constructive dialogue on campuses, in schools, and in workplaces. External Communications — lead our media and public relations efforts to elevate OpenMind’s thought leadership in the bridge building field
Growth Marketing — oversee the contractor managing our digital marketing efforts, including SEO, SEM and digital ad campaign management, CRM, CRO, email marketing, landing page design, funnel marketing, etc.
Management & Leadership — supervise the work of all marketing support contractors (and eventual full-time staff), including graphic designers, copywriters, and web developers.
Mission Driven — you are passionate about bridging divides
Marketing & Communications Experience — 7+ years marketing or communications experience, including at least three years in digital marketing
Project Management — 5+ years experience
Audience Growth — demonstrated success in building an audience, ideally within higher education

Creative — you have creative ideas for how and where to tell our story and the stories of our learners
Excellent Copywriting — a thoughtful, conversational writer with personality
Eye for Design — successful experience managing graphic design projects
Relationship Building — a reputation as an excellent partner
A Mission-Driven Culture — we practice what we preach, so we wear our values of intellectual humility, continuous learning, and non-partisanship on our sleeves
Remote First — OpenMind was founded as a remote first organization, and we work hard to maintain a strong team culture across vast distances (our small crew is spread across six states and three countries)
Compensation — salary starting from $110,000, negotiable, commensurate with expertise and experience.
Other Benefits — $400/mo reimbursement for health insurance premiums/expenses, subsidized parental leave, 401(k) program (not matched), short- and long-term disability insurance, life and AD&D insurance, $1,000 annual professional development budget
