OpenMind was co-founded by social psychologist Jonathan Haidt, the author of the bestsellers The Righteous Mind and The Coddling of the American Mind. Since launching in 2017, our tools have reached more than 45,000 people in more than 450 classrooms and 50 organizations and companies, across 15 countries.

About the Role

We are looking for a creative storyteller and results-driven strategist to become our Director of Marketing & Communications. You will architect OpenMind’s marketing strategy to grow our learner base, and will also develop our communications strategy to establish OpenMind as the leading brand for fostering constructive dialogue on campuses, in schools, and in workplaces. You will report to the VP of Growth & Development, and will work closely with the entire leadership team. As our first full-time marketing and communications hire, you will manage the work of several marketing contractors, and will lead the team as we hire additional staff. 

Responsibilities

  • Positioning — establish OpenMind as a differentiated learning solution that educators, learners, and administrators can trust 

  • Marketing & Communications Strategy — collaborate with our leadership to determine where, when, and how to grow our brand and target audiences of learners

  • Content Marketing — lead the creation of content for web, email, publicity, video, and social, including case studies, reports for our development efforts, and whitepapers that translate our research for non-academic readers

  • External Communications — lead our media and public relations efforts to elevate OpenMind’s thought leadership in the bridge building field 

  • Growth Marketing — oversee the contractor managing our digital marketing efforts, including SEO, SEM and digital ad campaign management, CRM, CRO, email marketing, landing page design, funnel marketing, etc. 

  • Management & Leadership — supervise the work of all marketing support contractors (and eventual full-time staff), including graphic designers, copywriters, and web developers

Job requirements

Qualifications

  • Mission Driven — you are passionate about bridging divides

  • Marketing & Communications Experience — 7+ years marketing or communications experience, including at least three years in digital marketing

  • Project Management — 5+ years experience

  • Audience Growth — demonstrated success in building an audience, ideally within higher education

  • Startup Experience — you’ve been in an environment where you needed to be scrappy and build from scratch

  • Creative — you have creative ideas for how and where to tell our story and the stories of our learners

  • Excellent Copywriting — a thoughtful, conversational writer with personality

  • Eye for Design — successful experience managing graphic design projects

  • Relationship Building — a reputation as an excellent partner
